LESTER FINCH TROPHY
PLayed at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre on Saturday 10th March 2001
Brent Under 11's 1, Hackney U.11's 1.
Hackney earned a valuable Finch Trophy point with a spirited display in the Wembley High School mud on Saturday.
Brent took a deserved lead just before half-time with a low fifteen yard shot after Hackney goalkeeper Zeb Thomas had twice made fingertip saves to thwart the home forwards.
Hackney then took charge and were level within two minutes of the re-start, McIntyre's right-wing cross being met by Osei-Roach and then being turned beyond his own 'keeper by a Brent defender.
The conditions then began to take their toll of constructive football, but both sides could not be faulted for their effort and it was soon Thomas's turn to distinguish himself again. He managed to keep out a Brent penalty and then dived bravely at the feet of the oncoming opponent to hold on to the ball and ensure Hackney's share of the spoils.
Hackney Under 11's: Thomas, Edun (Holmleigh), Atherley-Buckridge (St. John of Jerusalem), Thomas, Osei-Roach (Orchard), Osei-Poku (St. Thomas's), McIntyre (Baden Powell), Gordon (Daubeney), Langsdon (Grazebrook), Smith (Berger), James (William Patten).
