LESTER FINCH TROPHY
TOWER HAMLETS UNDER 11'S 3, HACKNEY UNDER 11'S 2.
Striker Karmah DuBerry hit a first-half penalty and a fine individual second-half goal for injury-hit Hackney, but his efforts proved to be in vain as the visitors were just edged out of the Finch Trophy points by neighbours Tower Hamlets.
Playing into a strong, swirling wind, Hackney were pinned back for much of the first period, but kept a clean sheet until five minutes from the interval when CAIN HARRIS and TONY WILLIAMS netted for the home side. DuBerry then gave Hackney a lifeline from the penalty spot before Hamlets restored their two goal advantage through Harris after the break.
Midfielders Fagan and Suckley then led a Hackney revival with some incisive passing but it was from goalkeeper Sampson's long clearance that Duberry rounded two defenders and the goalkeeper to slide the ball home from a narrow angle to set up an exciting finale, but despite Hackney's late pressure, Hamlets held on to take the points.
