SB8R
. . . it would seem that the 1998 SB8R was been sent back to the drawing board for a complete new look.
The Suzuki TL1000-powered machine didn't impress fans when it was revealed at the Milan and Paris shows during Autumn '97. So Bimota has put back the launch date while it is given a makeover. Bimota spokesman Peter Kynnersley said: "All we have here for people to see at the NEC show is the carbon and steel frame." The bike, which had been due to race in the 1998 World Superbike series, has a series of innovative linkages so the rear shock can be mounted as far forward as possible and more weight can be put over the front to improve stability.
For 1999 the SB8R was announced at the 1998 Bologna Show and is due in Spring '99. This will be a homologated racer for the BEARS Sound of Thunder series for big twins. There's even talk of a WSB entry.
