Italia Connections' Laverda page
Humble Origins
The venue was a village, named Breganze in the Dolomites of North East Italy. This was the home of Pietro Laverda's family agricultural machinery manufacturing business. This business was sold by the family to the Fiat Group in 1978, Laverda combine harvesters are still made today ;-)
The first production Laverda motorcycle model was a 49cc made in 1949 by Pietro's grandson Francesco Laverda.
Zane Laverda models:
*** Aprilia have taken-over Laverda. As yet there is still no official announcement regarding Aprilia's intention for the marque. The Zane factory has been closed now for some time and is said to be set to assemble Taiwanese scooters with Laverda logos! :-(
Rumours are rife of plans to build a badged Laverda carrying a Triumph (triple?) engine. Aprilia have released details of their new Moto GP engine which is a triple derived from Formula 1 technology including pneumatic valves - we will have to wait and see if this becomes the basis of a new Laverda range.
Nobody appears to know if the planned Zane Laverda triple has survived at all. It would appear NOT to have been part of the take-over deal??

Models included are as listed below, plus other models made since the the factory was reborn:

750 Black Strike Cafe Racer

New Triple(s)
There are rumours galore, but the recent takeover by Aprilia has thrown everything into limbo. Aprilia have yet to make any formal announcement as to what they intend to do with the Laverda marque.
