Whistle Tutorial - Lesson 1.4

Holding the Whistle

Holding - GIFPlace the tip of the mouthpiece in your lips. I use my teeth to anchor it, and sometimes I bite on it lightly. I've been told that this should be avoided, so if you can, just use your lips.

Grip the whistle with your left hand and cover the top three holes with the pads of your first three fingers. Your thumb will probably be behind your index finger or your middle finger.

Now cover the remaining holes with the first three fingers of your right hand. Again, your thumb will probably be behind your index finger or your middle finger. Try to have a firm but relaxed grip.

Also try this: take all fingers off except the ring finger of your right hand. The mouthpiece should be steadied by your top lip, and both thumbs placed on the back on the barrel. You'll need to practise this because it's necessary in order to play one note on the whistle (the C sharp).
