Dennis recently discovered that he has a lymphoma cancer which has been spreading very quickly. He is 52 years old and earlier this year his son died tragically. He is still very positive, and puts on a show of being bright. "He is getting on with life as far as he is able. He has strong chemo once every three weeks", and the other two weeks it's a lighter dose. He is also taking lots of tablets.
Because the cancer is so widespread, and he is basically a very fit man, they are trying out a revolutionary new treatment. He will be spending 3 and half weeks in isolation while they kill off all the cancer cells.
He is still able to do some work—much to the surprise of the medical profession.
They went to the Salvation Army Carols at the Fairfield Halls recently (early December 2001).
Dennis often related stories about some people who tried to "ram Jesus down his throat" and how he wasn't the least interested; but now he has asked us to pray, especially for his wife Carol.
Update on 29th December 2001—Dennis had a heavy dose of Chemo this morning, and he is really very depressed and very down. He called Trevor who, fortunately, wasn't at work.
Trevor went round and was able to pray and read the Scriptures to them both, about three times (Same verses Psalm 62.). Dennis wanted Trevor to sing the chorus about sinking sand, but Trevor read about "The Rock". Dennis is very conscious and pleased with the prayers.
The Lord is working.
