Now here we have a very strange storyline, based on a now-extinct insect civilisation that went to war with humanity and some quite far-out organic technology.
At the start of the story, we enter the civilisation of mankind covering 20,000 planets and ruled by a black-hooded entity known only as His Shadow whose base of power is an artificial world called The Cluster.
Throw in a fourth-grade Security Guard who has been sentenced to death, a woman who has been partly transformed into a so-called Love Slave, an assassin who has been dead (actually kind of "alive-dead") for thousands of years, and the head part of an organic robot that accidentally received the brainwashing part of the Love Slave transformation, and you have the classic adventuring foursome.
Now place these four into the huge organic spaceship Lexx, which also happens to be the most powerful destructive force in the two universes (yes, two universes! One is the Light universe of order, ruled by His Shadow, and there's also the Dark Zone of chaos and evil, existing in parallel), and all is set fair for some amazing and wacky adventures.
This is definitely one of those series that have to be watched to be appreciated, and even then it isn't everyone's cup of tea. However it is a very worthwhile departure from the norm, and is hugely entertaining.
Lexx is currently in its fourth series.
