There are several common picture formats on the computer.

the most common types are:

WMF is the best format for line and block drawings (symbols)
Jpegs are the best format for colour photographic images

Bitmaps are an old photographic picture format, currently Writing with symbols can only use Bitmaps and WMF.

Pictures can be printed from most programs. There will be a print option in the File menu (first menu item, top left). On most programs there is a small picture of a printer on the top bar, which you can click on to print.
To manipulate pictures (rotate them, resize them, or alter them) you need an image manipulation program. Paint Shop Pro is the most common one on the school computers
You can load pictures into programs through the file menu or you can drag a picture file into the program.
You can use pictures taken with the digital cameras, scanned photographs, or pictures taken from CDroms to make picture shows that our pupils can access with the Keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, overlay board, or switch. Adding sound allows you to create multimedia ('talking books').
