There are a number of sounds already on your computer, you can get more from CDs, and the internet. You can record your own sounds using a microphone. If you open a sound editing/playing program (all computers have a basic player usually called media player) and go to the open file menu the program will list only sound programs.
You can record sounds from a tape recorder or a music cd onto the computer.
