By the end of this course you should:
- Know the outline of components of a Personal Computer system and understand how they work together.
- know about the common peripherals attached to PCs
- Know procedures for starting and shutting down PCs.
- Know some basic techniques for working through when the computer does not start.
- know how to use a printer.
- Know about how to connect different devices (switches/overlay boards) to the computer.
- Know how to start programs from the start menu.
- Know how to save and load files from within programs.
- Know the common file types and how to convert between them.
- Know how to add programs to the computer from floppy disc and CDrom.
- Know how pupils can access different programs.
- Know about a range of access methods (switches, overlay boards etc).
- Know which programs support pupils access aims
- Be familiar with a range of software to develop curricular access for pupils
- Know about the Curriculum for ICT (including the National curriculum)
- know how to record pupils use of the computer and to chart any progression
- Know how to create a range of software using multimedia authoring programs
- Be familiar with the use of the internet and the world wide web
