In 1997 this was a new show, when it was held at Manchester's Nynex Arena.
As the NorthWest's first ( +only ) bike show it's popularity was it's undoing with queues of up to an hour and a half to get in on the Sunday! However despite the problems it certainly was a glamour show, styled like the NEC Bike Show with models parading around on stage.
In 1997 our stand was opposite the "Bikes 'n' Babes" Calender stand, complete with Debra Corrigan of Page 3 & Playboy Channel fame :-))) ...... Every cloud's got a silver lining. We only managed to get a small alcove area, but filled with 9 bikes it looked the business. The final trophy of that weekend was a pose from Debra on Mike Starr's Jota complete with complimentary photos.
For 1998 it moved to the G-MEX CENTRE!!!
G-MEX is a converted railway station, and the term cavernous certainly applies. It's HUGE.
Also for 1998 it was extended to cover the Friday as well as Saturday & Sunday.
Daytona Exhibitions got 29,500 to attend the show for 1998!
For 1998, this was good news for exhibitors and public alike. With more floor space, there'll be more exhibitors. Also the factories/importers are supporting it this time so look out for more new bikes :-))
So for 1998 the ILOC was there with a bigger space - 7m x 5m, room for about 8 bikes and the ILOC Regalia.
We had the latest 750S with full fairing supplied for the weekend by those helpful Laverda people, Cobb & Jagger in Shipley, Yorkshire. That was complemented by 2 privately supplied 750S' from the Horwich/Bolton area, a 1973 750SF2 supplied by Mike Harding of Bolton, a 1978 180' Jota brought by Steve Entwistle of Bolton (again;-), another 180' Jota owned by Bob Padgett from Huddersfield, a 1980 180' Jota from Ray Shone, another 1980 180'Jota but radically modified (without thought of cost;-) to suit owner Mike Starr and last (but not least) my own SFC1000.
Thoughout the 3 days we enrolled some new members, and made a lot of friends some of whom I'm sure will join the Club in the near future. We also sold some regalia :-)
Edinburgh.
Russell Taylor is organising an ILOC Club stand at this year's show. Call in and give your support or just say Hello.
Redgate Lodge, Donnington Park Race Circuit, Derbyshire.
As usual there's a FREE buffet to fill your up ready to hear of the Club's fortune's and the events of last year. Apart from the boring bits about the various financial statements there's the ever popular Bent Conrod award with it's associated tales of woe about the poor shortlisted few.
Do you know of someone who deserves it? Send in your account of the nominees problems (poetic license is very acceptable;-).
The winner is voted upon by the gathered crowd, once they've stopped laughing!!!
Roy Bridge, Nr. Fort William, Scotland.
This is about 15 miles North East of Fort William on the A86 in Glen Spean.
Based at a friendly highland pub with camping facilities for the hardy, or a number of B+B places for the quick ones ;-))
