Although the so-called "Cabinet-style" of Council that we have been forced to adopt appears to have been intended to mirror central government, i.e. decisions taken by just a few people and behind closed doors, we have decided that all Cabinet meetings and scrutiny committees shall be open to the press and public, so anyone is welcome to come along and witness the proceedings.

The only exception to this openness is, as always, for items of business that require us to exclude the public and the media because of confidentiality. For example if the meeting needs to discuss someone's personal details or a commercially-sensitive matter, then in accordance with Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act of 1972, just those items will be dealt with in closed session, usually at the end of the meeting. There are also a couple of panels that deal exclusively with personal and commercial matters, so—as they always have done—they continue to exclude the press and public.

Below is a schedule of all known upcoming meetings, including whether or not they have been confirmed. As soon as I receive the agendas, they too are included on this site and a link is provided in the appropriate place in the list. Please feel free to come along to any of the public meetings, which means nearly all of them.

In the table below, Civic Centre refers to the Council offices in Strood, and Municipal Buildings means the office in Canterbury Street, Gillingham. Clicking on either of these, or any agenda link, will pop up that item in a separate browser window. Clicking on a Council, Cabinet, or Committee name will move to a page about that body (they're just too big to sensibly pop up), so in this case use your Back button to return here.
